BEAR DOG FARM'S BEAR DOGS

Our "Bear Dogs" are named for the Viking spirited Great Pyrenees dogs that the Norwegians use to this day to remove bears from their farmland. When a mother and her cubs wander onto a farm in Norway, the owners call for reinforcements. The dogs are patrolled on leash at the lot line of the farm for a day or so. Then turned lose to persuade intruders to move on most times to a radius of 3 miles away. When I mentioned bears in Norway, I do mean Polar Bears included! Our current breeds include Great Pyrenees, Rottweiller & Anatolian Shepherd. Dogs range in size from 75 - 125 pounds for females and the males 100 - 150. All of our dogs come from or are actual working dogs as guardians and cattle herders. Deenie was a day care provider in her previous life. She would stay with a group of dogs in the yard of a local day care and guide the children to stay within the yard. She has taught the other girls to do this daily with our daughter. We don’t seem to have the coyote problems that many have experienced around here, and I’m sure it because of them. We have noticed the sheep heading toward the dogs when they hear them bark at night, sensing they will be protected. Next came Peanut the Rat Terrier, the Viking spirit lives inside this tiny package, she likes the view the big dogs have when she is carried about, but can hold her own on the ground chasing Piglet and Thor. Night falls and they all jockey for positions, on our bed. Good thing they do get warm and move to cooler places.
